Acolytes

Director: Steve Johnson
Asst: Pamela RW Kandt

The Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church defines an Acolyte as one who assists the ordained and licensed ministers at worship services. The duties of the Acolytes include lighting the altar candles, carrying the candles in procession, and assisting the sacred ministers at the Mass. These duties define some of the mechanics of the Acolyte's actions, but the larger focus of the fine group of Acolytes at St. Mark's is the service to the Lord through service to the Priest and to people of God, who come together at Holy Eucharist.

Acolyte training sessions are held at regular intervals throughout the year to sharpen the skills of our veterans and to incorporate our new recruits into the fulfillment of true worship through this important service. Acolytes are trained so that we might realize our goal: TO SERVE THE PRIEST AND THE PARISH FAMILY IN A MANNER THAT SUPPORTS THE SOLEMN DIGNITY OF THE LITURGY.
